From KickStarter.com, regarding my record, ‘Near The Knuckle’. Recorded in 2012, and not yet released.
“I do not even know where to begin. Lets just rip off the band-aid..
First, thank you all for your generous donations, and while I understand that people are extremely upset with me.. Thank you for your support, and hopefully continued patience.
I never in a million years would have imagined that this project would have ended up the way that it has, a complete mess.. But I also never in a million years would have imagined I would end up that way either. Its been a hard road getting here.
I have been thinking about what this post would say for some time. Everything I come up with just doesn't convey how truly sorry I am for letting everyone down, how embarrassed I am, and it just sounds like excuses. Life is messy, but everyone's lives are messy. I am not special, or exempt. But I am truly, truly sorry.
So instead of writing after all of this time and giving you reasons why the record hasn't come out, I am here to let you all know that it IS coming out!
The record has been fully recorded since 2013, and was in the mixing process at the end of 2016, beginning of 2017 when it was shelved for what looked like the last time. We tapped the budget and I was lacking pressing costs. That has basically been the only hold up. Approximately $3,000, not including merch. I have had and refused numerous offers from friends who have wanted to make up the difference.. But I got myself into this mess, I needed to get myself out. I have been working and saving and am happy to report that pressing costs are covered! And I learned how to screen press! Merch problem solved.
I had an awesome meeting with Wes Sharon last week, who recorded 'Near The Knuckle', at 115 Recording Studios in Norman. We compared notes on where everything was, came up with a game plan to move forward, and began writing the liner notes and credits. Wes will be completing the mixing and mastering beginning at the end of this week! I have posted a preview on www.pigsflyshop.com, of the track, 'Mostly Bad'! Wes has been incredibly patient with me through all of this, thank you Wes.
I have also been in touch with the fantastic Jackie Jones on the painting that she started for the cover of the record all those years ago. She held onto it of course, is in the final stages of wrapping it up! She has been sending me sneak peeks, and it is beautiful! Jackie has also been a rock through this whole process, thank you Jackie.
Once the painting is finished, I will be doing the final design and layout for the CD and LP myself. We'll get the masters, and then it is off to the presses! If all goes according to plan, I am hoping to start planning and announcing CD release shows by spring!
The record will most likely be released independently, though there are some things in the works that I'm not quite ready to post. This is all finally happening and will be happening fast. But we have waited this long, so I want to do it right.
Publishing will continue to be handled my longtime friend and publisher Jess Ibgui of Budde Music France. There are also some exciting placement announcements coming up, so stay tuned for those! As always, thank you Jess for all of your hard work. Bisous!
I am also currently working on having enough merch, and or replacement rewards to make sure everyone gets what they were promised and walks away from this deal whole. I have enough of the "Harter H" merch to fill rewards, and will be coming out with the new merch for 'Near The Knuckle' once the painting is in hand and I can make all designs cohesive, and badass looking!
When we started this project I never would have asked for permission to get everyone excited, take everyone's hard earned money, ask my friends work their fingers to the bone, take too long, go over budget, and then wait 7 years to have the balls to show my face. So all I can do now it ask for your forgiveness. I am truly sorry. I hope that you all will bear with me for just a little bit longer, because despite everything, I am so very proud of this record and cannot wait to share it with you! I hope it will be worth it! It's still worth it to me!
Thank you all, and stay tuned! OH, and please make sure I have the correct donor info for you so I can get you all the goodies that I promised!
Stay tuned, hang in there, and thank you! -Ali”
